Excellent! "Beyond Eternity" totally exceeded my expectations. This is the best science fiction-adventure book I have ever read. The action scenes are gripping, and this book totally holds your interest from the beginning to its wonderful, surprise ending. It operates on about three levels throughout . . . exciting adventure story, high moral level of its main character, and insights about how political & economic systems operate and compare. It is fun, insightful, and interesting. . . all at the same time. Best of all, there are hidden "Easter Eggs" of buried insights, which come to light which surprise and delight you when you discover them. Is "work of art" too strong a phrase to use for a mere, unassuming science fiction book! Wow . . . I loved it!Product details

Good story and a very easy read l

Good price on kindle. Two thumbs up
I rather enjoyed reading this book. While I don't think it was quite up to the hype it was given that led to my reading it, I did find it engaging! So go ahead, grab some coffee, and start reading!
Paul writes a fantastic story of a relatable hero experiencing one of life's toughest moments when fate would change for him and kicks off the story.
Great characters, realistic dialogue and excellent attention to detail keep you locked on form page to page.
My only criticism is that there wasn't more to absorb! Looking forward to a sequel
I am a big reader of all things fantasy and science fiction, and a good friend suggested I check out Beyond Eternity. I found it to be a very strong debut offering from Paul Deaver. I found the book to have a clever / innovative plot supported by strong writing (including an unusual dose of realism in the flying and fight scenes). I definitely look forward to the possibility of sequels as there is plenty of fascinating unexplored terrain here. The one thing I would love to see more of going forward is enhanced, multi-dimensional world building to flesh out the backdrop of the story for me. All in all, I am definitely recommending Beyond Eternity to my friends who are always on the lookout for something new / good in science fiction to read next.

Paul Deaver is one of the best new authors I am following.
Beyond Eternity Is a hard book to describe. While there are political dystopian aspects to the story, that is only part of what makes it work. In some ways, the book is about the hero dealing with trauma and moving on with his life. To some extent, it is a coming of age story. In many ways, I would describe it as being a non preachy, The Sleeper Awakes, by H. G. Wells. In some ways, it is about taking responsibility for those around you.
I was asked to give an honest opinion of Mr. Deavers new novel after having read his short story Tormented Slumber. First I have to admit, I have never been much of a sci fi reader! But I will admit, I very much enjoyed this story! Started reading and it caught my interest rapidly and held my attention! I rate it 5 stars and would highly recommend it! I read some of the other reviews and not quite sure what they were whining about with character development. I understood and readily identified with the characters. Take a leap of faith and give it a try!!
Not a badly written book. Not a novel but a bit more than a short story. A long story, perhaps. The telling of the story is pretty straight forward and economically worded. But the ending just wasn't ........ an ending. The great confrontation with the evil powers occurs but just how things were concluded is unclear. Lead characters are gravely wounded but it is hinted that they may still be alive. We never find out. Forces are gathered in opposition but we never find out whether or not they were brought into play. It is like a piece of really good candy that falls on the floor before you are finished eating it. What you got of it was pretty good but it could have been so much better. Perhaps the author had another book or two in mind for a trilogy or something...But that is not made clear either. Rather disappointing. Even still....what was there, for the price, warrants three stars.
